Hosted Apps

How monthly hosted apps work on Kyper.

How subscriptions work

When you subscribe to an app, Kyper spins up a private, isolated instance running just for you. Your instance runs on dedicated cloud infrastructure with its own database, its own URL, and its own data.

You pay a monthly subscription that covers the developer's price plus infrastructure costs. Billing is handled through Stripe, and you can manage your subscription from the Stripe billing portal.

Pricing breakdown

Your monthly subscription price has two components: the developer's price (what the developer charges for their software) and an infrastructure fee (the cost of running your dedicated server, database, and storage). These are combined into a single monthly charge — there are no hidden fees.

You can change your plan at any time if you need more headroom. There are four plans — Hobby, Basic, Pro, and Turbo — each with a different hosting fee that adjusts your monthly total. Find them on your hosted app page.

Bundle discount

Running more than one app on Kyper? Your whole plan gets cheaper — automatically.

Apps running Hosting fee discount
1 appNo discount
2–3 apps15% off all plans
4+ apps20% off all plans

The discount applies to the hosting fee on every active subscription — developer prices are not affected. It adjusts automatically when you add or cancel subscriptions.

When you qualify for a bundle, Kyper shares underlying infrastructure across your apps where possible — including databases and caches. Each app's data remains isolated automatically. This keeps your costs lower without any change to how your apps run.

Promotional codes

Some apps support promotional codes that provide 1–3 free months of hosting. If a promo code field appears on the checkout page, enter your code before continuing to payment.

During the free period, you won't be charged. Once it expires, normal monthly billing begins automatically — no action required on your part. Each promo code can only be used once per app per account.

All features and updates work normally during the free period. Your deployment runs on the same infrastructure and receives the same automatic updates as any paid subscription.

Hosted app lifecycle

  1. 1
Subscribe — click "Deploy & Subscribe" on the app page. Review the pricing confirmation.
  2. 2
Finish setup — if the app requires settings or connected services, you'll be asked to provide them before hosting starts.
  3. 3
Deploy — Kyper sets up all required services (database, cache, object storage, etc.), deploys your app, and runs any setup tasks (like database migrations).
  4. 4
Running — your hosted app is live. You'll receive an email with the URL. The app is accessible at your-app.apps.kyper.shop.

Managing your hosted app

From Hosted apps, you can:

  • ✓
View status — see if your hosted app is running, provisioning, updating, or failed
  • ✓
Access your app — click the URL to visit your running instance
  • ✓
Update environment variables — change API keys and settings without redeploying (hot-reloaded)
  • ✓
Change plan — switch between Hobby, Basic, Pro, and Turbo at any time. Takes effect immediately.
  • ✓
Upgrade major versions — when a developer ships a major update, you'll see an upgrade banner. You choose when to upgrade.

Automatic updates

When a developer ships a new version:

  • Patch/minor updates (bug fixes, small features) are deployed automatically to your instance. No action required.
  • Major updates (potentially breaking changes) require your opt-in. You'll see a banner and can upgrade when ready.

If an update causes issues, Kyper automatically rolls back to the previous version and notifies both you and the developer.

Enhanced Security

Kyper offers an Enhanced Security add-on ($10/month) for accounts that need stronger access controls and compliance documentation. It applies to every deployment in your account.

Enhanced Security includes hard Kubernetes RBAC controls that prevent Kyper's automated systems from exec'ing into your pods, a Restricted Pod Security profile, and an immutable audit trail of all API actions taken against your namespaces.

Enhanced Security is designed as a foundation toward HIPAA compliance. If you need a BAA or have specific regulatory requirements, contact us. See the Enhanced Security docs for the full feature list and limitations.

Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time from the subscription detail page.

Day 0
You cancel. Your subscription continues until the end of the billing period.
End of period
Deployment is suspended. No further charges.
+ 7 days
Data export is generated and emailed to you. Deployment and all data are permanently destroyed.

The 7-day grace period ensures you have time to export your data. The export includes database dumps and data snapshots for all services (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, S3 object storage, etc.).
