Pricing & Payouts

How to price your app, what Kyper charges, and how you get paid.

Pricing options

You set your own price in kyper.yml. You can offer one-time purchases, monthly subscriptions, or both. The minimum for a one-time purchase is $1, and the minimum monthly subscription royalty is $1.

One-time purchase

Consumer pays once, downloads the source code. They get lifetime access to future version downloads.

yaml
pricing:
  one_time: 49.00

Monthly subscription

Consumer pays monthly. Kyper deploys and manages a private cloud instance for them.

yaml
pricing:
  subscription: 12.00

Both

Offer both options. Some consumers want to self-host, others want it managed.

yaml
pricing:
  one_time: 29.00
  subscription: 9.00

Commission structure

Kyper uses two revenue models depending on how your app is sold. The model is different because subscriptions involve real infrastructure costs that Kyper pays on behalf of each consumer.

One-time purchases: 15% commission

For one-time purchases (source code downloads), Kyper takes a flat 15% commission on the gross sale price. Stripe processing fees (~2.9% + $0.30) are deducted separately.

Example: $49 one-time purchase

Gross sale $49.00
Stripe fee (~2.9% + $0.30) -$1.72
Kyper commission (15%) -$7.35
Your payout $39.93

Subscriptions: you keep 100% of your price

For subscriptions, you set a monthly price (your royalty) and keep 100% of it. Kyper adds an infrastructure fee on top — covering the server, database, and storage that run each consumer's private instance. The consumer sees one total price: your royalty + infrastructure.

Kyper's revenue comes from the infrastructure markup, not from your earnings. This means your income scales with your subscriber count, and Kyper's margin covers the real cloud costs of running each deployment.

Infrastructure tiers

The infrastructure fee depends on the deployment tier the consumer selects.

Tier Spec Infra fee added
Hobby 0.1 vCPU / 512 MB / 1 GB storage $5.00/mo
Basic 0.25 vCPU / 512 MB / 1 GB storage $10.00/mo
Pro 0.5 vCPU / 1 GB / 5 GB storage $15.00/mo
Turbo 1 vCPU / 2 GB / 10 GB storage $25.00/mo

Example: $12/mo royalty on the Hobby tier

Your royalty $12.00/mo
Infrastructure fee (Hobby tier) $5.00/mo
Consumer pays $17.00/mo
You earn (per subscriber) $12.00/mo

Stripe processing fees apply to the total consumer payment and are absorbed into the infrastructure margin — they do not reduce your royalty.

Promotional codes

Kyper supports promotional codes that give consumers 1–3 free months on hosted subscriptions. Promo codes are generated by Kyper admins in the format KYPR-XXXX-XXXX and can be platform-wide or scoped to a specific app.

To participate, enable the "Free trials" toggle on your app's settings page. This opts your app into the promo code program and allows consumers to apply codes at checkout.

Payout impact

During a consumer's free months, no royalties are earned — the consumer pays $0 and you earn $0 for that subscription. Promo-code months are excluded from payout calculations entirely. Once the free period ends, normal billing and payouts resume automatically.

Opting in to promotional codes is entirely optional. It doesn't affect your existing subscribers or change pricing for consumers who check out without a code.

Payout mechanics

  • ✓
Frequency: monthly, on the 1st of each month
  • ✓
Minimum threshold: $25. If your earnings are below $25 in a given month, they roll over to the next month.
  • ✓
Payment method: Stripe Connect Express. Funds are transferred directly to your connected bank account.
  • ✓
Taxes: you are responsible for reporting and paying your own taxes. Kyper does not withhold taxes on payouts.

Setting up Stripe Connect

Before you can receive payouts, you need to connect a Stripe account:

  1. Go to Payouts in the developer portal
  2. Click "Connect with Stripe"
  3. Complete the Stripe Express onboarding flow (takes ~5 minutes)
  4. Once connected, payouts will start on the next monthly cycle

You can start selling before connecting Stripe — earnings accumulate in your account. But you won't receive payouts until Stripe Connect is set up and charges are enabled.

Tracking earnings

Your developer portal shows earnings at two levels:

  • Per-app earnings — view count, conversion rate, revenue breakdown on each app's earnings page
  • Payouts — full payout history with line-item breakdowns (which purchases/subscriptions contributed to each payout)
